The organ can wear an infinite number of hats, jackets, shoes. But no matter which outfit it wears, it always seems to always be around gatherings. From a church service to a dive bar to a baseball stadium, there is something about the organ that’s fueled by these human events (or does the organist fuel them?). Due to its flexibility and seemingly perpetual social presence, we often get requests for more organ music. It’s time to deliver.
Raw Drawbars (3ING-072) is a nostalgic, retro trip into the wide world of the organ. Largely solo recordings that focus on the genre-jumping range of the instrument, you’ll also find some minimal electric guitar, stomps and handclaps to accompany the Leslie-infused sounds of a classic Hammond organ.
Composer Philippe Bronchtein (also heard on 3ING‘s Liquid Layers) has created a new, yet familiar feeling set of tracks that will feel at home during the 7th Inning Stretch at any baseball game with “Ball Park Frank,” take you to church on “Stand Up And Say Amen,” and even drop you off at a haunted amusement park with “Spooky October.” Add in a bit of malt shop romance schmaltz, comedic old-timey kitsch, and chapel preludes for weddings or funerals, and you’ve got yourself a colorful collection of useful organ music.
Keep this album in your back pocket for when all those churches, bars, and stadiums need the soundtrack that only an organ can provide.
