The world of synthwave is wide, varied, and ever-evolving, and the nocturnal duo of Immortal Girlfriend might be leading the way. After already releasing two edgy, dynamic singles and an epic video in the opening months of 2021, it feels like brothers Will and Kevin Bush are just getting warmed up as they debut their third single of the year.

Their new song “Beyond The Blue” demonstrates the band’s ability to combine the darkness with slick and pulsing production. It’s a brooding exploration into a failing relationship colored by dreamy synths and sequencers. The vocal delivery is subtle, yet emotionally charged, continuing to bring the vocals to the forefront.

This release marks the band’s first collaboration with mixer Daniel Holter of Wire & Vice (also founder/creative director of The License Lab), who has brought his signature pop polish and cinematic sound design to “Beyond The Blue.”

We’re getting serious trailer vibes from this one (and most of Immortal Girlfriend’s catalog). It’s not only a fantastic synthwave/dark pop track, but it’s an ideal soundtrack for dystopian worlds and automotive franchises (hint hint).

We’ve been saying it for a while now, but don’t snooze on Immortal Girlfriend.
